Weekend Recap The New Castle track is an excellent facility. The track is smooth and challenging, the restaurant serves great food and the rest rooms are 4 star. The Dismores have built the premiere karting track in the United States. Veloce - Karit chassis have a dominating weekend.
Damiano Chiesa had 1st and 2nd place finishes in the ultra competitive
International ICA field. Sunday, May 22 The start of the ICA final was marred by a massive accident in turn one. Several drivers ended up under their karts and the race was red flagged. No one was seriously injured. On the restart the top four karts pulled away from the rest of the field. Veloce driver Damiano Chiesa was blocked on the outside and dropped back to 6th. After working his way through traffic Chiesa took over the lead just after half way. The lead pack of four swapped positions several times per lap as no one driver had a clear advantage. With three laps to go, one of the lead driver spun out and the combination of Michael Ryall and Johnny Johnson drafted past Chiesa down the straight. Chiesa moved to second on the last lap and made a move going into the last corner but was shut down by Ryall to finish 2nd by 0.2 seconds.
Overcast day at the track. ICA qualifying has Veloce drivers Omar Bergo in 2nd and yesterdays winner Damiano Chiesa in 4th.
Saturday, May 21 Veloce by Karit wins big at STARS New Castle A beautiful, sunny day in Indiana. After qualifying 4th, Damiano Chiesa drove his way to the front to win the ICA race aboard a Veloce by Karit. The 23 year old Italian provided a driving lesson to the rest of the field as he pulled away from the start to a 3 second lead. Damiano then lowered his lap times by about .1 per lap from the mid part of the race. Mark Dismore wins the TaG charity race aboard a Veloce Karit with Sonik power. The senior Dismore moved his way to the front of the field on lap three and slowly pulled away from the other 29 karts. Mark Dismore Jr., also aboard a Veloce / Sonik, finished a distant second to his 48 year old dad. Mark Sr. ran consistently in the 24 lap race to win by about 5 seconds. Dismore donated $1600.00 of his winnings to the Cancer Society and threw a party for everyone at the track with the remainder. Friday, May 20 Practice day starts cool and overcast. The track is mostly dry for the first of five practice sessions. Temperatures are in the mid sixties with heavy fog. Forecast is for clearing skies this afternoon. The TS Racing team is joined by the Karit factory team from Italy. Drivers Damiano Chiesa and Omar Bergo along with their chassis and engine tuners will be contesting the ICA class in the Karit Veloce chassis. The Italian team is joined by TS driver Kevin Kopp and guest driver Mark Dismore Jr. all aboard Karit Veloce chassis. Thursday, May 19 Rain, rain, and more rain. Today was a set up day. Thunderstorms rolled through the area as 200 entries unloaded and set up tent and karts. Lightning knocked out power for about 2 hours during the day. Most people went through tech and registration. STARS personnel seemed very organized and things ran smoothly on a day with no on track activity. |
